Qualcomm is building its mid-range lineup with a new chip, the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2. The 4nm 4 Gen 2 chip was designed to bring significant improvements to his SoC from last year. This will improve photography, provide faster fast charging and better connectivity in the global market.
TheSnapdragon 4 Gen 2 is designed for use in mid-range devices and is not intended to be the best system on chips available today. Rather, Qualcomm marketed the chipset as “purpose packed”, portraying it as some kind of useful his SoC with a powerful modem. First of all, the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 has the company’s cryo CPU. This CPU runs at up to 2.2 GHz and is touted for a 10% performance boost over its predecessor.
The 4 Gen 2 is based on his 4nm process and is the first product in the series to be manufactured on this architecture while the 4 Gen 1 is manufactured on his 6nm. The chip includes two power cores and relies on six separate efficiency cores to streamline processes and extend battery life.
If the mid-range phone with Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 really does die, Qualcomm offers Quick Charge 4+ technology to boost charging speed. This unique process enables a 50% charge in just 15 minutes. When it comes to display performance, the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 device is available with an FHD+ display running at up to 120Hz. The 4th Gen 2 should also be a bit more flexible when it comes to connectivity.
With the X61 5G modem RF system, the chipset supports more frequencies and networks than previous versions, ensuring a wider range of connections. Where the 4th Gen 2 seems to really shine is its enhanced photo and video capabilities. This chipset offers faster autofocus and EIS, making photo capture faster and more reliable. For video, 4th Gen 2 uses temporal multi-camera filtering to improve video noise reduction.
The chipset only seems to support up to 1080p, but no 4K. Qualcomm has said that the 4th Gen 2 will launch on his device in late 2023. At the moment, both Redmi and Vivo will be adopting his Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 in unnamed devices.
