As we anticipate the arrival of the updated audio recorder featuring noise cancellation and Voice Moods, Google Messages introduces a revamped playback interface utilizing the new Material 3 slider.
The new design showcases a pill-shaped timeline with a substantial thickness and a vertical line as the handle, lacking animation upon selection or dragging. An inactive track stop indicator is denoted by a dot at the end, while a visible gap separates the slider handle from the active/inactive track.
This audio preview is embedded within the text field, seamlessly transitioning to a different inline UI once the message is sent. This refinement is a welcome addition, especially considering that the rest of Google Messages has yet to fully embrace Material 3 design elements, evident in the continued use of the old on/off toggle style.
This enhancement accompanies the latest Google Messages beta release (version 20240312_00_RC00).
While the audio recorder redesign is slowly rolling out, offering users a keyboard-sized recording pane accessed with a simple tap, the widespread availability of Voice Moods is yet to be observed. Although some users have reported experiencing this new UI, reports of Voice Moods implementation remain scarce.
