Apple has secured a temporary halt on the ban affecting Apple Watch sales, courtesy of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. The ongoing patent dispute with Masimo has prevented Apple from selling or importing Apple Watches equipped with blood oxygen sensors.
The latest development follows Apple’s recent request to the International Trade Commission (ITC) to defer the Apple Watch ban until a subsequent decision in January. Although unsuccessful in that initial attempt, Apple received a reprieve on Wednesday.
Last week, Apple preemptively announced the discontinuation of sales for Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 on its website and in its retail outlets. The ban came into effect after the Biden administration chose not to intervene.
Apple’s current win means the watch ban is temporarily lifted until January 10. Additionally, Apple has submitted a software update intended to address the concerns, with a decision on its adequacy expected by January 12.
