Apple Pay seems to have soft-launched in South Korea with one card issuer. Apple Pay should launch in South Korea anytime after regulatory hurdles Apple recently confirmed.
According to some sources, this feature seems to be enabled. Twitter user known only as “Aaron” or user @aaronp613 shared a code image showing that Apple Pay is valid in South Korea. In addition to this, he shared a link to his Apple support document in South Korea providing more information.
The Nearly Empty Document is a list of cards currently available for Apple Pay in your region. So far, only the Hyundai card is included in the list. These lists are maintained by Apple, but are not always up to date and users should contact their card provider.
For example, this shows the rollout of Apple Pay in this region, but Apple’s support documentation on Apple Pay availability has not been updated to reflect South Korea.
Aaron has shared code found in beta and is the authoritative source for such information. He has previously shared code referencing upgrades to realityOS and the Apple Homekit architecture.
Apple hasn’t officially announced the launch of Apple Pay yet, but it may soon. He may wait for more launch partners to provide support before making an announcement.
