OnePlus introduced its inaugural smartwatch in 2021, which unfortunately turned out to be quite a disaster. However, it seems that the company isn’t ready to throw in the towel just yet, with reports suggesting a new OnePlus smartwatch is on the horizon for 2024.
The original OnePlus Watch didn’t quite live up to the expectations of a typical smartwatch. It leaned more towards a glorified fitness tracker, excelling in battery life and health data accuracy, but fell short in terms of software functionality and attention to detail. Moreover, it was a subpar imitation of Wear OS, lacking critical features at the time.
Fortunately, OnePlus gradually addressed many of the significant issues with the smartwatch. However, it failed to leave a lasting impression and was eventually discontinued. Furthermore, there have been no updates to the product since early 2022.
Now, Max Jambor reveals that OnePlus is actively working on another smartwatch set to debut in 2024, labeled as the “OnePlus Watch 2”. It’s anticipated to surpass its predecessor, although the initial model set a fairly low benchmark.
A pivotal question revolves around the choice of the operating system for this new smartwatch. While Oppo utilized Wear OS, it was primarily for square watches. Hence, OnePlus might opt for an independent approach this time, branching out from Wear OS.
