Xiaomi finally brought the 17T to India today, and the price landed lower than most people expected. The base 12GB + 256GB variant is Rs 59,999. The 512GB version costs Rs 64,999. Three colours: Black, Blue, and Violet.
That’s it for the suspense. Now the interesting part.
Why This Launch Actually Matters
The last Xiaomi T-series phone to reach India was the 11T Pro, back in 2022. Four years is a long gap. Xiaomi quietly stopped bringing T-models to India while competitors like Samsung and OnePlus kept filling that Rs 50,000–70,000 bracket. So the 17T isn’t just another phone drop — it’s Xiaomi testing whether that segment still wants them back.
Given what they’ve packed in here, the answer might be yes.
The Camera Setup
The headline feature is a Leica 5x periscope telephoto camera — the same optical zoom capability found in the Xiaomi 17 Ultra, which costs over Rs 1,00,000. That’s the thing that makes this phone worth paying attention to. You’re getting flagship-tier zoom in a phone priced well under the flagship tier.
The full rear camera system:
50 MP primary (Leica-tuned)
50 MP periscope telephoto with 5x optical zoom
12 MP ultrawide
Front camera is 32 MP. Video content creators who shoot a lot on their phones will find the telephoto useful for subject isolation and reach — wildlife photography, concerts, candid street shots.
Display
A 6.59-inch AMOLED panel with 1.5K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. It supports HDR10+, Dolby Vision, and full DCI-P3 coverage. Peak brightness goes up to 3,500 nits, with HBM brightness at 2,000 nits.
That’s a solid screen. Outdoor visibility shouldn’t be a problem.
Performance and Software
MediaTek Dimensity 8500 Ultra handles processing duties. It’s paired with 12GB RAM across both storage variants. The phone ships with Android 16 and HyperOS 3, with Xiaomi’s HyperAI features and Google Gemini built in.
The Dimensity 8500 Ultra is a mid-range chipset — it handles daily tasks and gaming without breaking a sweat, but it’s not competing with Snapdragon 8 Elite territory. For this price, that’s a reasonable trade-off.
Battery
6,500mAh silicon-carbon battery with 67W HyperCharge wired fast charging. It also supports USB-C Power Delivery at up to 50W, PPS charging, and 22.5W reverse wired charging — useful if you want to top up earbuds or a smartwatch from the phone.
The previous T-series flagship, the 15T, had a 5,500mAh battery. This is a meaningful step up.
