Oracle Layoffs 2026: Jobs at Risk Globally

Oracle appears to be gearing up for a fresh wave of layoffs, and this one is coming barely five months after the company let go of tens of thousands of people in March. Internal estimates circulating among staff put the new round at somewhere between 7,000 and 10,000 employees worldwide, according to reports, with India expected to take a significant share given how the last round played out.

What’s being reported

Nothing has been officially confirmed by Oracle. What’s out there so far comes from internal chatter and reporting that surfaced around September 1, describing preparation for cuts before the start of Oracle’s second fiscal quarter. Business Insider reported in mid-August that managers had already been asked to flag employees for possible redundancy, with some teams facing double-digit percentage reductions.

If the numbers hold, this would land in the same range the company just went through. Oracle’s own annual report, filed in June, showed its global workforce dropped from about 162,000 to roughly 141,000 over fiscal 2026, a cut of around 21,000 people, or 13 percent of staff. Multiple reports at the time put India’s share of those cuts above half, with estimates around 12,000 employees affected in the country alone. The March round became known for how it was delivered: terminated employees reportedly got a 6 a.m. email from “Oracle Leadership” telling them their last working day was that same day, with severance details following later through DocuSign.

The part that doesn’t add up on the surface

What makes this stand out from the usual layoff story is that Oracle isn’t shrinking. Cloud infrastructure revenue climbed 77 percent to $18.1 billion in fiscal 2026, and the company has raised its capital expenditure guidance to around $50 billion. Oracle is also tied into the Stargate AI infrastructure push, reportedly valued at up to $500 billion, and has been linked to a cloud deal with Open AI worth close to $300 billion. Reports say the company is looking to raise another $45 billion to $50 billion to keep funding that expansion.

So the pattern isn’t cutting costs to survive. It’s cutting headcount in some areas while pouring money into AI and cloud infrastructure in others, a shift that’s been playing out across the tech industry but has been especially visible at Oracle given the scale of both moves happening at once.

What this means for India

India has absorbed an outsized share of Oracle’s cuts so far, and there’s no indication in current reporting that this next round will look any different. Nothing about specific divisions, timing, or severance terms for India has been confirmed for this round yet. If it follows the pattern from March, expect the details to surface gradually through employee reports and state filings rather than a formal company announcement.
