Xiaomi is bringing its Ultrathin Magnetic Power Bank 5000 15W to India on September 8. It’s arriving alongside a second, chunkier model, the Magnetic Power Bank 10000, which trades slimness for a bigger 45W charging speed and a built-in cable. The company has already put up a landing page for both on its India site, and Sandeep Sharma, Xiaomi India’s Associate Director for Marketing and PR, has been sharing early photos online.
What it actually is
The pitch here is portability over raw power. The Ultrathin packs a 5,000mAh battery into a body just 6mm thick and 98 grams in weight, thin enough that Xiaomi has been comparing it to a pencil in its own marketing shots. It snaps onto the back of a phone magnetically, and Xiaomi says it’s slim enough to sit in a wallet without anyone noticing.
It charges wirelessly at up to 15W (7.5W if you’re on an iPhone), and there’s a USB-C port on the side for wired charging, rated at up to 22.5W in the global version. You can run both at once if you need to top up two things at the same time. Xiaomi has also built in a graphite sheet for heat dissipation along with dual NTC sensors to keep temperatures in check, plus the usual protections against overcharging, short circuits, and overvoltage.
One detail Xiaomi is leaning on for India: the company says it’s Flight Safe and Q2 certified, and under 100Wh, which matters if you’re the kind of person who travels with a bag full of gadgets. It’s also being made in India.
The trade-off
A 5,000mAh cell isn’t going to fully recharge most modern flagships. This is built for a quick top-up during the day, not an emergency full charge overnight. If you want more juice, that’s what the 10000mAh sibling launching the same day is for, though it won’t be nearly as slim.
