Xiaomi has locked in a launch date for the Redmi 17 5G in India: September 3. The phone already exists in a handful of overseas markets, and the company has been running a teaser microsite on Amazon to warm people up before the reveal.
What’s confirmed so far
The headline number is the battery. Xiaomi says the Indian unit will pack 7,900mAh, which is 900mAh more than what the Redmi 16 offered before it, and even a step up from the 7,500mAh cell in the global version of this same phone. Charging comes in at 45W wired, with a charger included in the box, plus 22.5W reverse wired charging so the phone can top up a pair of earbuds or another device.
Under the hood is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 4 Gen 5, a 4nm chip built for budget 5G phones, clocked up to 2.4GHz across eight cores. Xiaomi is positioning this as the first Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 phone to reach India.
The display is a 6.9-inch flat panel running up to 120Hz. On the back, there’s a dual-camera setup led by a 50MP main sensor, though Xiaomi hasn’t said what the second lens does yet. Selfies and video calls go through an 8MP camera in a hole-punch cutout.
Three colors are locked in for India: Absolutely Black, Endless Blue, and Eternal Orange. The phone will sell through Amazon.
What’s still up in the air
RAM and storage combinations for the Indian market haven’t been announced. The global version ships in 4GB/128GB and 6GB/256GB configurations with room for a microSD card up to 2TB, but Xiaomi hasn’t confirmed whether India gets the same split. Pricing is also unannounced. As a loose reference point, the global Redmi 17 5G starts at MYR 769 in Malaysia, which works out to roughly ₹18,000, though Indian pricing tends to shift once local taxes and specs get factored in. Given the segment Xiaomi is targeting, expect the India price to land somewhere under ₹25,000.
