BSNL Introduces eSIM Service in Tamil Nadu
BSNL has soft-launched its eSIM facility in the Tamil Nadu telecom circle, enabling customers with compatible smartphones and wearables to activate a new mobile connection without a physical SIM card. Subscribers can visit any BSNL customer service centre to complete a quick digital KYC, receive a one-time QR code, and download their eSIM profile on the spot. The service accommodates both new users and existing ones seeking to migrate from plastic SIMs, offering dual-SIM flexibility and enhanced security, and will be rolled out nationwide in phases to match the capabilities of private rivals like Airtel, Jio, and Vi.
Alongside the eSIM launch, BSNL has deployed network-level anti-spam and anti-smishing protections powered by Tanla Platforms. This solution activates directly on the network, shielding subscribers from fraudulent SMS-based scams without requiring any app installation or changes to device settings.
BSNL Soft Launches 4G Services in Delhi
On August 15, 2025, BSNL initiated a soft launch of its 4G network in Delhi through a “4G-as-a-service” arrangement with a partner operator. Under this model, BSNL SIM holders with 4G-capable handsets gain immediate last-mile radio coverage for voice and high-speed data, while BSNL continues to build out its own indigenous network in parallel. New customers can obtain a 4G SIM and complete eKYC at BSNL and MTNL customer service centres or through authorised retailers to start using the service right away, reinforcing the company’s commitment to accelerating digital inclusion in the national capital.
To celebrate the launch, BSNL rolled out the “Freedom Offer,” letting first-time subscribers acquire a 4G SIM for just ₹1. The introductory package provides 2 GB of daily high-speed data, unlimited voice calls across India (including national roaming), and 100 free SMS per day, valid for 30 days. This special deal runs through August 2025 and is exclusive to new BSNL customers. The offer complements BSNL’s earlier investment of ₹25,000 crore, which funded the installation of around 100,000 4G-ready towers nationwide, and paves the way for an additional ₹47,000 crore infusion to strengthen its telecom infrastructure further.
