Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has rolled out its home-grown Quantum 5G Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) service in Hyderabad, delivering fibre-like speeds over a SIM-less, plug-and-play connection. Built entirely with indigenous hardware and software under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, this breakthrough taps BSNL’s existing 5G standalone (SA) core and radio network to authenticate customer premises equipment (CPE) automatically—no SIM cards or wiring required.

Early network tests in Hyderabad recorded downlink speeds up to 980 Mbps and uplink rates of 140 Mbps, all with latency below 10 ms—benchmarks traditionally reserved for fibre-optic broadband. BSNL claims the self-install gateway covers 85 percent of city households using its tower grid, eliminating the need for trenching or fibre pulls.

Tariff plans start at ₹999/month for 100 Mbps, while a ₹1,499/month plan unlocks 300 Mbps peak speeds—both valid for 30 days. These packages target high-data users, from video streamers and gamers to work-from-home professionals, enabling instant connectivity: just plug in the CPE and connect via Wi-Fi.

Following this soft launch, BSNL will pilot Quantum 5G FWA in Bengaluru, Pune, Pondicherry, Visakhapatnam, Gwalior, and Chandigarh by September 2025. A Robert J. Ravi, CMD of BSNL/MTNL, highlights that this indigenous, SIM-free model “demonstrates how Indian engineers can create world-class connectivity” and positions BSNL to bridge the digital divide in semi-urban and rural regions.

Beyond residential use, the same 5G SA core will support network-sliced, SLA-backed links for MSMEs and smart-manufacturing clusters, offering enterprise-grade reliability and security. A nationwide commercial rollout is planned after gathering feedback from pilot markets.

As private players reassess their fibre and cable portfolios, BSNL’s Quantum 5G FWA emerges as a cost-efficient, high-speed alternative—no SIM swaps, no civil works, and no compromise on performance. Subscribers in eligible cities can register interest via the BSNL portal and expect doorstep delivery of the self-install kit within weeks.
